Nothing is more powerful for the expectant mother, than hearing beautiful real accounts of birth, the highs and lows, the unbiased, un-media censored versions of the potentials of love, support, and grace. I am grateful to many of my clients for sharing their experiences of birth with me.
I cannot fully express how grateful I am to have had Kat’s support before, during and after the birth of our son! As first time parents, my husband and I were both nervous and excited. While we were eagerly anticipating the arrival of our son, we were also uncertain what to expect and daunted by the process of labor and delivery as well as the many decisions that accompany it.
When we decided to hire a doula, we were looking for someone who we could turn to when we had questions and count on to support us in the time leading up to and during delivery. Upon meeting Kat, we knew she was just what we were looking for. She was calm and understanding, flexible and supportive; a great resource! My husband and I were able to turn to her for ideas and information. She helped us understand our options, craft a birth plan, and cultivate strategies for relaxation and pain management.
She was also a great when it was time to put our plans into action. During labor she was an amazing source of support to both me and my husband. She talked me through visualizations, relaxation and pain management techniques during labor. She was a calming presence as well as an extra hand that let me and husband move through labor as a team, as peacefully and productively as possible. Thanks to Kat, my husband and I could not have had a more positive experience! We would highly recommend Kat to anyone interested in hiring a doula and we fully intend to seek her services again should we have another child.
We were incredibly grateful to have Kat with us for the birth of our first child. We believe we would have “gotten through it” together, but with Kat, it became a wonderful experience. Our journey was not exactly what we planned or expected… but it ended up being exactly how it needed to be. Contractions started on a Thursday morning and went into Friday morning before we decided to go to the hospital.
The beginning of labor was a mix of excitement and anxiety, both mentally and physically challenging. Kat’s support was a blend of phone calls, texts, being at our house, providing perspective, knowledge, and helping more when either of us was fatigued. When we arrived at the hospital, we chose to go with an epidural to help give Therese some much needed rest. Labor was a delicate balance of resting, using energy, advocating, and letting people take care of us. As labor continued onto the evening, some birth complications occurred. We were hoping to continue on for a vaginal delivery, but we had to go with a c-section to keep Mom and baby safe. And then our baby girl was born… one of the best life moments ever.
We think the theme of the birth journey was that not much went as expected, but all the right choices were made at the right time. We believe that having Kat as our doula made that possible. She was the perfect complement to our team. She was supportive in exactly the right ways, completely reliable, and an incredibly kind, joyful presence. She was the consistent calm to which we centered ourselves. We knew that our daughter’s birth would be a special experience. One of the best “unexpected” things was how much more special it was because of Kat.
Thank you Kat. You’ll always have a special place in our hearts during one of our most special life events
Kat was wonderful! She was professional, reliable, and communicative. She provided us with a great deal of information on hospitals, midwives, comfort measures during labor, and more in the months leading up to the delivery. During labor she came prepared with a bunch of tools to mitigate the pain and was at the hopsital in the middle of the night shortly after we asked her to come in. She helped us to maintain a positive, calm environment, and her coached breathing techniques really helped me get through each contraction. Kat helped my husband and I to work together and also communicated my needs to the doctor and nursing staff as requested. She helped to retrieve water, blankets, etc during labor to make us more comfortable. I felt extremely relaxed around her. She has a great bedside manner and an uplifting personality and was a pleasure to be around. This was my second labor and a successful VBAC and my husband and I both feel like we couldn’t have made it through without her help. I would highly recommend her to anyone considering using a doula and would definitely work with her again if I ever have a third child.
My husband and I welcomed our baby boy a week early, and the birthing process happened quickly. When we contacted Kat shortly after midnight I was already in active labor. Kat reached the hospital right when we did and remained by my side. Her gentle and calm presence was crucial for my staying relaxed during an unmedicated labor. I remember Kat repeating the words “bring baby down” while I breathed through each push. She had the natural ability for providing all the right things at the right time, offering sips of water between contractions, massaging my lower back, and coaching my husband to provide additional support. We are so lucky to have had Kat available for our birth! Thank you, Kat!
Kat was my doula for the birth of my second child, and I can’t say enough positive things about the labor and delivery experience that I had with her by my side!
My husband and I initially met with Kat a couple of times during my third trimester to go over techniques and suggestions that would help me through a natural labor and delivery process. Kat was also able to assist in writing a short, concise birth plan for hospital staff to follow. This preparation leading up to my labor and delivery helped me feel very well prepared and confident for my baby’s birth day, and it helped Kat and my husband know the types of comfort measures that I’d be open to during labor and delivery.
Having Kat as my doula really helped me go through the labor and delivery process in a very natural and instinctual way. The only thing that I had to focus on during the labor and delivery was the baby. Kat was able to make very helpful suggestions to my husband and I to keep me focused, comfortable and positive. She was also able to help me labor as much as possible at home (in my comfortable surroundings) before heading to the hospital, and once we did arrive at the hospital, the staff were well versed in my desires for a natural delivery.
All in all, I was very happy that we worked with Kat for the birth of our son and would definitely recommend her services!
I don’t know how my husband and I could have gone through labor without Kat. She was a sense of calm and encouragement during a time that I imagine could be very stressful. We were referred to Kat through a very good friend and at our first meeting, my husband and I knew that she would be the absolute best person for us. She has a warmness to her that was instantly comfortable.
At our first meeting after hiring her, Kat patiently talked us through the labor process and went over techniques she found to be comforting to her ‘mothers’. I appreciated how flexible she was to encourage a labor process that was what my husband and I wanted. She provided us with a DVD – the business of being born and samples of birthing plans – both of which she was available to answer follow up questions we had. As we got closer to the birth – Kat followed up with me to see how I was doing. When I had a question, she was only a text message or phone call away. When I was worried about feeling something different – she was immediately available to soothe my fears and provide reassurance as to the ‘normalness’ of what my body was going through.
The day I went into Labor – Kat was there every step of the way and when it was ‘go’ time. She was at our home ready to be our labor coach – a calming spirit. With each contraction, I felt put at ease through Kat’s relaxation techniques. I felt in a trance throughout the labor – and although I was open to receiving an epidural if I felt I needed one – I attribute our natural childbirth to Kat’s ability to help me through labor with her suggestions and techniques for making each part of the process more manageable. My husband and I are blessed to be parents of an amazing daughter – we are so glad we had Kat by our side to be our advocate during her birth.
Kat was my doula for my pregnancy and birth of my first child, Jack, and I do not think that I could have had a more positive and relaxing experience if it weren’t for her. Kat provided me with comfort, reassurance, and strength throughout my pregnancy and especially during my labor and birth. She was open and receptive to my birth wishes (I preferred to have a natural birth…which I did…but was open to an epidural) and provided me with lots of information on the birth process, relaxation tips, and various natural strategies to manage pain and contractions. When I went into labor, Kat was there within minutes to guide me through the process and was a great source of comfort and strength. I did the majority of my laboring at home, and Kat was prepared to make me as comfortable as possible through massage and encouraging words. When we arrived at the hospital, Kat was with me the entire time acting as my advocate when I could not speak. She coached me throughout the pushing process, and Jack Elliott was born naturally within minutes. The whole experience was so positive and surreal, and dad and I were in awe as to how smooth and easy the birth of our first son was. We attribute this mainly to Kat as she set the tone for the both of us to follow. I strongly recommend doulas for pregnancy and birth, and Kat is one of the best! If you are fortunate enough to have Kat as your doula, you are certain to have a beautiful and positive experience.
Kat was a wonderful resource for our family. Kat met with us a couple of times at our home to talk through what types of support would be most helpful to my wife during labor, as well as offering some advice on easing some pregnancy discomforts. She also helped with formulating a birth plan. She arrived very quickly once we knew it was really labor – before I did, in fact – and rode with us to the hospital. She helped my wife through labor one contraction at a time with a marvelous massage technique and verbal support.
She was very unobtrusive while being completely ‘there’ for us. We recommend her highly.
I had my first baby a week ago (an unmedicated water birth) and I couldn’t have done it without Kat. She helped me follow through with my birth plan by practicing relaxation techniques during our meeting and being there emotionally for me during my pregnancy. She always responded to my phone calls, texts, and emails right away and was genuinely interested in my updates after my appointments. When I was in labor she knew exactly what to say and do to help me get through a contraction. She knew when to give my husband and I our own moments as well. Her voice and demeanor are very relaxing; we hired her on the spot without interviewing any other doula. I didn’t take any child birth classes (just did some reading) and hired Kat, and that was enough. She is worth every penny and more!!!
Kat was our doula for the birth of our first child November 2012. Our experience with Kat was a GREAT one, so great that it’s difficult to put in words how grateful we were for her and all she did to make the birth of our daughter beautiful, enjoyable and stress-free. Kat’s work began in the third trimester when she visited with us to find out exactly what we wanted relative to the birth. She helped educate us on the birthing process and helped us create a short and concise birth plan. When contractions began, she instructed us to meet her at the hospital (they were too close together to chance her meeting us at our house) and was there already with everything lined up. We decided on a natural childbirth and I honestly don’t think we would’ve stuck with that plan had Kat not been there. She was there for EVERY contraction doing whatever she could to ease the intensity, keeping us positive and focused on what we were there to do. After the birth of our baby, she came to our house to check in to make sure everything was going well. The entire process was perfect and exactly what we hoped it would be! We are fortunate that we met Kat and highly recommend her for anyone looking for a positive, empowering and beautiful birth!
I was a little skeptical of our need for a doula when my wife, Amy, first suggested it. I didn’t know much about doulas, and questioned the value one might bring to the birth experience. But it was important to Amy so we began to set up interviews with potential candidates. Kat was the first one we interviewed, and within a few minutes of meeting her I was not only sold on how valuable she was going to be, but I knew we didn’t need to interview any other doulas for the job.
Kat quickly put any fears or doubts to rest by explaining the entire process from pregnancy to post-birth, the doulas role, and what we should and shouldn’t expect. As a nervous dad-to-be, this was music to my ears. She is professional, but warm and easy-going. In control, but patient and never overbearing. She is very knowledgeable, but always took the time to ask us how we would want to do things. Kat was an invaluable member of our team.
Most importantly, when my wife (and me!) needed her most, she rose to the occasion and was superb. My wife did a completely natural childbirth with no drugs. She was in labor for almost 27 hours. We have a beautiful, healthy baby girl to show for it all. It was amazing, and as powerful and moving a bonding experience as you can imagine. A lot of credit needs to go to Kat for gently coaching us through it all.
In short, the greatest compliment and strongest recommendation I can give is this – we will ask Kat to be there along for the ride for any and all future children we have!
